Eligibility Criteria

2. Nomination: Must be nominated by a Canadian higher education institution affiliated with the Vanier Canada program.
3. Degree: Must be pursuing a first Ph.D. or an integrated Ph.D./Master’s. Only the Ph.D. portion is eligible for the award.
4. Enrollment:
   • If currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program, must not have completed more than 20 months of study by September 5, 2024.
   • If enrolled in a combined Master’s leading to a Ph.D., must not have completed more than 32 months of study by September 5, 2024.
5. Academic Performance: Must have achieved a first-class average in the last two years of study (specific definitions may vary by institution).
6. Restrictions: Must not hold a scholarship from CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC.

Applicants must be nominated by their prospective or current Canadian institution. Here’s the process:

1. Nomination: The institution contacts the applicant for nomination, or the applicant can express their interest to the institution.
2. Application Submission: Complete the application through ResearchNet (link provided at the end) and submit it to the institution. Each institution may have its internal deadlines.
3. Institution Submission: The institution submits nominations to the Vanier-Banting Secretariat by September 5, 2024.
