The Application Process for
Malta’s scholarship program has one of Europe’s most competitive application processes. The Ministry of Education invites students from outside of Malta to apply for scholarships. To do so, you must submit an application form and write a letter describing your academic goals and why you would like to attend school in Malta. You also need to present your standardized test scores, such as an SAT or GRE score report. Selection is based on merit alone; candidates who speak English well are more likely to get a scholarship.
How Are Winners Chosen?
The European Commission is responsible for selecting all of its scholarship winners. After assessing several factors, including previous awards, education and training, language skills, and geographical residence, up to three finalists are selected from a pool of applicants. A panel of experts will then select one laureate from these finalists to be awarded a fully funded scholarship. The winner will receive an invitation directly by email; there will not be any public announcement or official ceremony held during or after selection day.
The Ineligible Categories
A Malta scholarship is not awarded to anyone who is currently studying or has studied overseas or who is following a program of study that would lead to a qualification in any profession regulated by a professional body. If you are eligible and apply to other UK universities before applying for a Malta Scholarship, your chances of being awarded a Malta Scholarship will be reduced. Different eligibility criteria are depending on whether you intend to study an undergraduate course, Master or PhD course, and whether you are eligible as an EU student or non-EU student.
