The Central European University (CEU) is a private university in Budapest, Hungary. It was founded in 1991 by prominent academics and human rights activists as an institution for higher education and research without any regard for national borders or languages. With over 1,600 international students from around 100 countries enrolled at CEU, it is one of Europe’s most international universities.
What are the benefits?
Central European University (CEU) scholarships are awarded to applicants with excellent academic credentials, meaning that if you receive a CEU scholarship, you will also be offered admission into one of their master’s or Ph.D. programs. The full-tuition scholarships also cover accommodation and travel costs for international students who qualify.
Who can apply?
The CEU Doctoral Program offers Central European university scholarships in Hungary for students from all over the world. The CEU program’s international character is reflected by its diverse student body, with nationalities coming from more than 100 countries. At present, there are approximately 400 doctoral students and 25 doctoral alumni.
When can I apply?
Central European University scholarships are available for those who would like to study there. There is a scholarship application you can fill out, which includes some basic information about yourself and your academic history, as well as an essay question. The essay question is open-ended, so you will have plenty of space to express your interest in Central European University and why you think that you are a good candidate for a scholarship.
What documents do I need to send with my application?

What language requirements are there?

You’ll also need a TOEFL score of at least 600 paper-based or 100 iBT and an MSAE TESOL certificate, among other possible requirements.

Students may choose from three different types of housing: CEU-owned, university-owned, or private. All accommodation is located within easy walking distance from campus. Please keep in mind that the listed prices are approximate costs per semester and are subject to change depending on government regulations and exchange rates. Financial support
As a non-profit university, CEU does not offer scholarships and stipends. Students who meet scholarship criteria at their home universities are encouraged to apply for scholarships from their home countries. There are many funding options available; some of them can be found on our website. Please check with your institution whether you may apply for a scholarship there. You should also check if applying for a CEU fellowship will affect your chances of obtaining a similar award from your home institution or government agency.
